Historian
Twenty Years in the Museum Field
with a Bachelor of Arts Degree
I earned my Bachelor of Arts degree in History from the University of Toledo in December 2002. I excelled in early American history and have always been interested in military history. I am particularly fond of the history of the U.S., from its inception through the Civil War. As with any history degree, I developed strong research and writing skills and am able to think critically about complex problems in order to reach thoughtful conclusions.
While in college, I was fortunate enough to put these skills to use as a volunteer historical interpreter at Fort Meigs Historic Site, a War of 1812 battlefield and museum. After graduation, I was hired on as a staff historical interpreter. My primary duties were to study and interpret the history of the site. I gave visitors a glimpse into the past by dressing in historic attire, demonstrating the use of the weapons from the time, and conducting tours and programs for schools and private groups. Also known as living history, I quickly developed strong public speaking skills which I continue to enjoy putting to use to this day.
As my time and experience at Fort Meigs progressed, I took on additional roles in the administration of the museum, and developed valuable skills in event management, logistics, graphic design, web design, copy writing, social media management, and more.
